Web Host Sends Phishing Warning

October 30, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider StreamlineNet (streamline.net) announced on Monday it has released a statement to all its customers warning of a new wave of phishing emails being sent to them.

StreamlineNet says the new style of phishing comes in the wake of sustained attacks on banks and possibly a new angle now that phishing for bank details has become a common and perhaps saturated method of stealing personal information.

The company says that fraudsters are sending bulk email pretending to be from StreamlineNet asking customers to confirm secure details, including their passwords. With this information the fraudsters are gaining access to customers' hosting accounts, which may contain information they can use to commit further illegal activities including identity fraud.

StreamlineNet is asking all of its customers to be extra cautious when reviewing their emails and advises customers from other hosting companies to use the same kind of precaution.
