October 29, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Compliance, disaster recovery and data protection software provider Sonasoft (www.sonasoft.com) has released SonaSafe, an email archiving solution for Microsoft Exchange Server, specifically designed to manage small and medium-sized businesses emails.

According to Sonasoft's announcement Tuesday, Microsoft Exchange Server is not only being used as an email server, but also as a document repository and management system as businesses are being increasingly asked to retrieve emails during litigation. Sonasoft's archiving software helps companies comply with regulatory requirements like HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley, which requires public companies to keep all documents and communications for seven years following an audit. The penalties for destroying or altering a document can include fines of up to $5 million and 20 years in prison.

SonaSafe is designed to meet regulatory compliance and eDiscovery needs of organizations, capturing all incoming, outgoing and internal emails and storing them in archive databases as a Single Instance Store. SonaSafe also uses "stubbing" which saves message contents including attachments in the archive database, leaving behind an empty shell of the message, or a "stub" in the body of the email, reducing the size of the Exchange server by up to 90 percent.

Sonasoft's email archiving solution supports Exchange Server 2000, 2003 and 2007.

With SonaSafe, Sonasoft is entering a turbulent Microsoft Exchange, email hosting market, in which USA.NET (www.usa.net) claims a leading position in terms of market share and its suite of security services. USA.NET offers anti-spam and anti-virus protection, content filtering, email encryption, eMessaging archiving, enforced TLS and other compliancy services, and disaster recovery. It also provides add-ons including hosted SharePoint and secure instant messaging with archiving capabilities.
