October 28, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Domain registrar and Web host Netfirms (www.netfirms.com) has launched a new version of its Netfirms XLR8 control panel, which the company said is now easier and faster to use, and now extends the benefits of clustered hosting and Web 2.0 cloud computing even to small businesses clients.

According to Netfirms' Tuesday announcement, the new control panel is now available to Netfirms' more than 1.2 million hosted websites worldwide. It has incorporated a number of customer suggestions to improve the usability of XLR8, including a domain transfer status bar to show how quickly transfers are occurring, and a customer knowledgebase to make troubleshooting easier.

"We encourage user feedback, with the promise that we will try to find ways to incorporate their suggestions in any upgrades," Netfirms president Thomas Savundra said in a statement. "Most of the changes we've made are based on feedback we've received in recent months. It is undoubtedly the most user-friendly control panel we've yet released."

Visually, XLR8 looks much different, with a redesigned menu bar to simplify navigation and streamline domain transfers to Netfirms. The user interface also includes new features for managing especially large domain portfolios.

Netfirms also said that users can expect an easier installation process for a wide range of single-click e-commerce, blogging and content management applications, as well as faster server speeds from the XLR8 control panel.

Savundra said choosing to incorporate fast, AJAX programming has made XLR8 a powerful interface for its grid hosting platform.

"The Netfirms platform is built on clustered hosting and distributed processing, making it effortless - in fact, automatic - to handle sudden spikes in traffic," said Savundra. "You don't want to be featured on CNN, for example, but be unable to handle the flood of traffic to your site."

Also updating its control panel offerings, Canadian Web host Cirrus Tech (www.cirrushosting.com) announced last week that it is offering cPanel as an alternative to its Plesk Control Panel on new Linux virtual private server and dedicated server hosting plans.
