October 15, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- IT compliance and security solutions provider Alert Logic (www.alertlogic.com), and software as a service delivery provider OpSource (www.opsource.net) announced that they have signed a partnership agreement.

The news follows another recent Alert Logic partnership announcement with NaviSite, where the web host is offering Alert Logic's Log Manager and Threat Manager to its managed hosting customers.

Under terms of the agreement, OpSource will offer Alert Logic's Log Manager and Threat Manager to its SaaS and Web customers. Additionally, OpSource will use Threat Manager to protect its own network and manage log data.

Threat Manager couples intrusion detection with vulnerability management technology to protect users from viruses, worms, and other malicious threats that typically bypass perimeter and endpoint defenses.

Log Manager enables organizations to secure their networks and comply with regulations that mandate log data be collected, regularly reviewed, and securely archived.

Since both Alert Logic's and OpSource's services are delivered via a SaaS platform, OpSource customers will be able to quickly deploy both security solutions without having to install or maintain any software.

"We are excited to partner with Alert Logic because they offer innovative intrusion detection, vulnerability management and log management solutions, combining them with a SaaS delivery model," says Don Barlow, senior vice president of operations at OpSource. "By partnering with Alert Logic, we can continue to expand the portfolio of services we offer our customers -- making their on-demand businesses even more secure."

As part of the new partnership agreement, OpSource will become a member of Alert Logic's Vanguard Program. The program provides members with on-demand security and log management solutions that are competitively priced, accelerated sales cycles and incremental and recurring subscription revenues, minimal management and support effort, and comprehensive sales, marketing and technical support.

Alert Logic provides compliance and security solutions, enabling its customers to detect threats, eliminate vulnerabilities, manage log data, and comply with policies and regulations.

OpSource delivers SaaS and Web applications for on-demand companies. Last month, OpSource hosted a webinar entitled "Softletter's annual SaaS Survey," which will preview new developments in the rapidly growing SaaS sector, as well as the best practices of successful SaaS companies.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
