UK Web Host iomart Launches Two Cloud Platforms

By Justin Lee, September 29, 2009

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- UK managed hosting provider and data center operator iomart Hosting (www.iomarthosting.com) announced on Tuesday it has launched what it calls "two of the UK's first genuine true cloud hosting platforms".

The company has developed two platforms which lets customers beneft from cloud technology This allows cloud users increased efficiency, as well as lower costs.

iomart Hosting offers the two cloud services out of all five of its UK data centers.

The on-demand cloud platform CloudXtra gives customers access to its cloud infrastructure on a pay only for what they use basis.

According to iomart, this pricing model is ideal for test, development and short-term or seasonal high-capacity requirements.

The customizeable cloud platform CloudSure gives customers a fully customizable cloud service.

Users can integrate networking, server, storage, and application infrastructure into a single, virtual cloud-based architecture.

"We took a strategic decision to ensure we owned our data center infrastructure and that strategy continues to prove its worth now with the advent of virtually-hosted cloud based data networks," says Angus MacSween, CEO of iomart Hosting. "With our two cloud hosting offerings, we are meeting the needs of two distinct markets. We are catering for both the company that needs to expand its current IT infrastructure on a short-term basis and also, for example, the company that requires high availability for disaster recovery purposes. Many cloud providers offer resilience within one single data centre, with our network we can offer the 'cloud holy grail' of multi site redundancy.

iomart offers a range of services, including managed hosting, colocation, complex hosting solutions, content delivery networks, IP transit, data center services and cloud computing. Earlier this year, the company rebranded to better reflect its focus on hosting.

July 2010 - What's Next? Forecasting Hosting's Future
Technically, there's nothing new about us posing the question, "what are the next steps hosting providers must take to capitalize on the opportunities available in the business?" From the 10,000-foot view, that's the basic premise that underlies just about everything the WHIR publishes or produces. In this particular case, however, we're looking at it through an extremely significant contextual lens. That is, for much of the last two years, hosting providers have been operating in a business climate defined by an economy in crisis.

March 2010 - Web Hosting in Europe
Europe cuts an interesting figure in our coverage of the web hosting industry. From a purely news standpoint, it is very possible to treat Europe in more or less the same way that we treat North America - that is, report the facts, ask the right questions, try to anticipate the issues raised. From an analytical standpoint, however, we present a distinctly North American point of view - this being the product of circumstances (our location), rather than a bias.

January 2010 - Hottest Hosts Directory
In 2008, in our inaugural Hottest Hosts guide, I wrote that we were exploring a new format with the first in-print directory of web hosting services. And last year, I discussed the project in the context of an ongoing project, and a growing tradition here at the Web Host Industry Review. The objective, however, is not to repeat ourselves, but to help the directory evolve into a more valuable resource - something that's going to help you with your purchasing decisions, and something you're going to hold on to for the duration of the year.
