September 7, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data center operator Digital Realty Trust (digitalrealtytrust.com) announced on Thursday that it has released the results of its research study that evaluates the future of green data center trends.

The study found that green initiatives are viewed as a key long-term factor in data center and operations and more than 80 percent of companies polled confirmed that their green data center strategies encompass not only computers and servers, which have been the primary focus of most coverage of green IT trends, but also facility design and operations. The research also found that more than 60 percent of companies project that having a green data center strategy will become an important factor in their vendor selections over the next 24 months, while nearly 73 percent said there is no clear industry standard for what meets the criteria of being a truly "green data center."

"Our goal for this survey was to determine whether the greening of the data center is a passing fad or represents the emergence of a deeper trend in technology that will permeate the industry for years to come," says Chris Crosby, senior VP of Digital Realty Trust. "To our knowledge, this is one of the first in-depth assessments of how deep-rooted these green initiatives are, and the findings provide compelling evidence that green initiatives will play a significant, long-term role in data center planning and design."

Digital Realty Trust will host a Webinar titled "Answering the Question: How Green is Green?" on September 10 at 1:00 p.m. EDT that will analyze the results of this survey in greater detail.

Digital Realty Trust recently completed a turn-key data center lease agreement with IntercontinentalExchange, which operates a global, electronic marketplace for trading both futures and OTC energy contracts as well as the soft commodity exchange.
