Internap Delivers Slingpage Platform

August 26, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Online service provider Internap Network Services (internap.com) announced on Tuesday it is providing content delivery network and managed server solutions for social browsing platform Slingpage (slingpage.com).

Last week, Internap announced it is providing managed hosting for the National Lampoon's humor network and ad services, which includes affiliates such as NationalLampoonSplog.com and DrunkUniversity.com.

Launched in June and currently in open beta for the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox web browsers, Slingpage will be powered by Internap's network and hosting services.

Slingpage says the free social browsing application helps "people discover and share the web instantly."

After browsing the website, it appears as though the application combines the functionality of a traditional instant messenger application with a video hosting site like YouTube, enabling users to send web pages to as many friends as they want.

The idea is to create a social community of like-minded individuals and browse popular web pages shared by others, giving the whole web surfing experience a more communal feel.

"With the help of Internap's CDN and managed server solutions, we are transforming web surfing from an individual activity to an interactive community experience," says Ryan Stephens, CTO and co-founder for Slingpage. "As Slingpage continues to grow, Internap's solutions will allow us to efficiently scale while ensuring a reliable user experience."

Integrated with media servers, enhanced storage, virtualization technology, network acceleration and route optimization, Internap says its CDN solutions deliver, manage and monetize media content for Slingpage.

The service provider's patented Managed Internet Routing Optimizer technology is embedded in the CDN, providing automated Internet performance monitoring and intelligent routing to offer Slingpage with optimal Internet performance.

Additionally, Internap's managed server uses DellPowerEdge servers running Microsoft Windows Server or Red Hat Linux, which are fully integrated with the CDN.
