Amazon Launches Web Hosting Service August 25, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Online retailer Amazon Web Services (amazon.com) announced on Thursday the launch of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, a transaction based Web application hosting service, according to a report by Technology Evangelist. The article says that Amazon describes Amazon EC2 as a Web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud that is designed to make Web-scale computing easier for developers.  Amazon also says that the service's simple Web interface will enable developers to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction, as well as enable them to have complete control of their computing resources.  Amazon adds that one of the most attractive features to its launch is that Amazon EC2 will change the economics of computing as it will enable users to pay only for the capacity they end up using, providing a completely transactional based service with scalable charges based on storage, bandwidth and time used.
