July 23, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Global IT company Sun Microsystems (sun.com) has announced Sun OpenSSO Express, a new enterprise solution that provides support and security for the technologies available in the 18-month-old OpenSSO project (opensso.dev.java.net).

On Wednesday, Sun announced the new solution for OpenSSO, the world's largest open source identity management project, providing transparent single sign-on (or SSO), scalable access management and secure web service capability.

Sun plans to release new versions of Sun OpenSSO Express approximately every three months to provide organizations with quick access to the latest technologies available in the OpenSSO community.

New or current customers with a Sun Java system access manager, Sun Java identity management suite or Java enterprise system license or subscription will have access to Sun OpenSSO Express at no additional charge. Technical support is available in standard, premium and premium plus levels.

"Enterprise software customers are increasingly choosing open source software because it gives them greater flexibility, access to cutting-edge technology and faster time to market," Sun vice president of software infrastructure marketing Mark Herring said in a statement. "Sun is delivering Sun OpenSSO Express in response to demand from users of OpenSSO, who would like to leverage Sun's expertise in providing enterprise-grade support and indemnification for open source software."

Since its launch, the OpenSSO community has attracted several high-profile members including Audi (audi.com), Medavie Blue Cross (medavie.bluecross.ca) and France Telecom (francetelecom.com).
