VPSLink Launches Gentoo Linux

July 14, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider VPSLink (vpslink.com) announced on Friday the addition of Gentoo Linux to its virtual private server product line.  Stephen Koenig, director of research & development, describes Gentoo as "perhaps one of the most customizable Linux distributions available," and says that users will definitely need to be comfortable compiling applications to take advantage of Gentoo. Portage, the software distribution system for Gentoo, runs a large portion of the operating system and more than 10,000 packages currently exist in it. To update to the latest version of all applications in the Gentoo system, VPSLink says one needs to simply type 'emerge-uD world' and everything will be up-to-date.  VPSLink is a wholly owned subsidiary of Spry Hosting. It is designed specifically for Linux power users and provides budget VPS Web hosting solutions from its data center in Seattle, Washington.
