June 27, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- On-demand, website test and measurement firm Keynote Systems (keynote.com) has announced KITE 2.0, a new, web application performance testing environment that includes testing of web 2.0 and cloud applications to be released in August.
"As cloud computing grows dramatically, a new age of products for testing and validating application performance in real time across the Internet cloud is required," said Vik Chaudhary, vice president of product management and corporate development at Keynote. "We've built KITE to address this need as a product for anyone wanting to understand and improve the performance of their Web applications from the end user perspective."
KITE 2.0, released this week, analyzes performance from both the user desktop and off-site. Its easy to use test script language and repository, according to Chaudhary is intended for web application developers, performance analysts and engineers, quality assurance testers and Web ops personnel, enabling them to collaborate on work across the application lifecycle.
Chaudhary said KITE 2.0 is significant because it is a "test-and-measurement environment for recording, editing and analyzing the performance of Web applications from the desktop and Internet cloud." Trends such as rich internet applications, the use of AJAX, video and flash has had an impact on the Internet, making it evermore important to
"The rapid Web applications lifecycle needs a testing solution that can keep up," Chaudhary said, noting that KITE 2.0 allows users to monitor networks and quickly repair problems using JavaScript programmability.
There is a video available of the Keynote team demonstrating KITE on some popular websites.
California-based Keynote is one of the older measurement and monitoring solutions companies in the industry, having been founded in 1995. This new release combined with the appointment of new executives are signs that Keynote is remaining competitive as the internet paradigm shifts to cloud-based computing.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
