June 27, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web analytics firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) announced on Wednesday that software giant Microsoft (microsoft.com) has recently switched its main Web site onto Windows Server 2008 and Internet Information Server 7.

Netcraft says that although Windows Server 2008 has not yet been released, beta 3 is publicly available for early adopters to use. IIS 7.0 on the other hand is already released but likely won't see widespread use until Windows Server 2008 is officially released since it only runs on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, says the company.

Currently, there are approximately 2,600 sites running Windows Server 2008 on the Internet. Many of the servers running the platform are at Microsoft itself, but according to reports, a majority of the users are developers and Web hosting companies. Windows Server 2008 is due to be released in the second half of 2007.

Last week, Netcraft announced that Rackspace Managed Hosting and New York Internet were the most reliable Web hosting companies in May 2007.
