June 26, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- San Diego-based cloud storage platform provider Nirvanix (nirvanix.com) has released a beta version of CloudNAS that turn a 1U server into multi-petabyte network-attached storage, creating a near-infinite storage gateway.

"Nirvanix CloudNAS represents a significant advancement in cloud storage," Nirvanix CEO Patrick Harr said in a released Wednesday. "Previously, enterprises could only access cloud storage by programming to an API. Now with CloudNAS, cutomer can immediately integrate Nirvanix' cloud storage into their existing application and process, and forego new purchases of expensive NetApp, EMC, IBM or other NAS product in favor of Nirvanix' storage as a service offering."

CloudNAS attaches the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network to a local network as a Window or Linux filer using standard networking protocol.

Users can then work with applications to which they are accustomed or drag and drop file from the desktop to Nirvanix' storage service optimized for media and large file.

Nirvanix distinguishes itelf from cloud storage service like Amazon' S3 (aws.amazon.com/s3) by not requiring API integration between application and cloud service.

According to a study commisioned by Nirvanix, the Nirvanix SDN i one-fifth or less the total cost of ownership of typical NAS vendor offering.

Available for Linux-based NFS mount using RedHat 5 or Sue 10, and Window Server 2003 or Window XP, beta tester will be offered special licensing term to upgrade to the full release after completing the beta program.
