Pirate Bay Targets Image Hosting
Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.
June 22, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- BitTorrent tracking site the Pirate Bay (thepiratebay.com) extended its efforts into the image hosting arena this week with the launch of BayIMG (bayimg.com), an image hosting site that is being promoted as free, and censorship free.
The site is likely intended to compete with the likes of Flickr (flickr.com) which has recently seen some customer criticism for filtering or censoring the content it hosts.
The site's operators reference freedom of speech in its promotional material. According to the group, BayIMG will host any image that isn't illegal.
Given the pedigree, it is likely that the word "illegal" refers more specifically to things like child pornography, and less to copyrighted images.
