June 19, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Merchant account provider and credit card processor CDGcommerce (cdgcommerce.com) said this week that it has released a QuickBooks integration feature for its product for free.
On Tuesday, CDGcommerce said merchants using its system would now be able to easily transfer data from the company's MerchantPortal program to their QuickBooks database, regardless of the gateway being used to process the payments.
CDGcommerce says it is one of the first merchant account providers to provide its customers with QuickBooks integration for free.
The feature enables CDGcommerce users to take advantage of QuickBooks' reporting features while they use the less expensive CDGcommerce payment gateway. The company says its MerchantPortal software and free payment gateway provide a less expensive solution "compared to competitors who charge for their credit card payment gateway and enhanced online reporting tools."
Placing their transaction information in QuickBooks will enable companies to access that program's reporting technology, which can create graphical trend charts showing things like sales and revenue growth and profits. It also enables users of QuickBooks to keep their transaction data with the rest of their business's financial information.
According to the company's press release, CDGcommerce's integration with QuickBooks "opens the door to thousands of QuickBooks users in the United States."
"Our merchant account services provide features not found on any other platform including free built-in Verified by Visa & MasterCard SecureCode at no additional cost to merchants," says Chris West, CEO of CDGcommerce, quoted in the announcement. "The technology offered by CDGcommerce is designed to help merchants get started with the most powerful merchant account tools and features available on the market."
Another e-commerce sotware company added features to its solution this week. On Monday, shopping cart software firm Pinnacle Cart announced that it had released its new version, Pinnacle Cart 360.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
