June 10, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- UK managed hosting provider DediPower (dedipower.com) announced on Tuesday it has been selected by integrated design and communications agency Oculus (oculus.co.uk) to provide managed hosting services for a new interactive website outlining a major government education initiative in England.
Located at NewSecondaryCurriculum.org (newsecondarycurriculum.org), the Department for Children, Schools and Families funded the CfBT Education Trust to produce and manage an interactive website launched to support the introduction and rollout of a new secondary school curriculum.
Oculus says this new site will enable thousands of teachers to register, access and download information on the new curriculum that is being rolled out, including video case study downloads of schools that are already implementing the new curriculum.
The website will also enable teachers to plan their own curriculum requirements online through interactive tools while also delivering a library of material to support best practice and links to valuable information and source materials.
"It is exciting to be a critical provider in a major government education initiative with Oculus and being selected to deliver the managed hosting requirements for this value added support service for teaching professionals," says Craig Martin, CEO of DediPower. "The power of the Internet today enables faster access to information in a rapidly changing world, with information at your fingertips. It is great to be at the heart of such initiatives."
Martin Bulmer, head of digital media at Oculus says the company decided to partner with DediPower because it is "focused on data center efficiencies, delivers service excellence and has the depth of technical skills and knowledge" Oculus required. Bulmer says he also liked DediPower's scalability, security and ability to handle sharp increases in site traffic.
Founded in 1998, DediPower says it is one of the UK's fastest growing managed hosting providers and offers dedicated servers, application and exchange hosting, high availability multi-server clusters and colocation.
The company is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and a RedHat Ready Hosting Partner and says it runs its own "purpose built data centers" totaling over 22,000 square feet in Reading.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
