Apptix Adds New Customer Service VP, SLA

By David Hamilton, June 03, 2009

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Hosted Microsoft Exchange email, SharePoint collaboration, and VoIP phone service provider Apptix (www.apptix.com) announced an industry-leading 100 percent uptime service level agreement for its hosted services on the Apptix "OnDemand" platform.

According to Apptix's Wednesday announcement, in support of the new SLA guarantee, Apptix has appointed Harold McGann Jr. vice president of customer service. In this role, McGann will direct the day-to-day operations of all Apptix customer service teams.

"We have worked very hard over the last year to enhance our customer service and deploy a new management platform in order to offer this 100 percent service level agreement," Apptix chief executive officer David Ehrhardt said in a statement. "Adding Harold to this critical corporate leadership role -- with his proven track record and extensive customer experience -- makes me even more confident that we, as a company, will continue to advance our commitment of delivering unparalleled service."

With small and medium-sized businesses in mind, Appix has spend the last year working on enhancing its customer service and deploying a new management platform in order to offer a 100 percent service level agreement.

Following an eight year career in the US Marine Corps, McGann boasts a customer service career spanning 17 years, including eight at online business solutions provider Network Solutions (www.networksolutions.com), where he managed the day-to-day operations of two inbound and outbound technical support teams, responsible for more than $30 million in revenue. Prior to Network Solutions, McGann managed customer service teams at Snyder Communications and National Electronic Warranty.

Apptix's 100 percent uptime guarantee offers customers credit of up to 100 percent of their monthly invoice amount for Apptix's extensive suite of OnDemand hosted services, including Exchange, SharePoint, BlackBerry Enterprise Server, ActiveSync, email archiving and Good Mobile, as well as advanced anti-spam and virus protection, web conferencing, secure instant messaging, shared websites, and online backup.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
