Web Hosting Sales and Promos Roundup

By David Hamilton, May 15, 2009

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- This week's web hosting sales and promotions were mostly based around events such as Host Department's Memorial Day discount and 123-reg's Eurovision song contest discount. Also, Neosurge announced virtual private server hosting starting at $6.95 per month...just because.

Host Department Launches 25 Percent Off Memorial Day Discount

In celebration of Memorial Day, web host and domain registrar Host Department (www.hostdepartment.com) is offering a lifetime 25 percent off discount for its "Premium Hosting" and 20 percent off its "No Limit" plans to customers who use coupon code "MEMORIAL09".

Neosurge Offers Cheaper-Than-Shared VPS Hosting

Web hosting solutions provider Neosurge Web Solutions (www.neosurge.com) has launched a range of virtual private server solutions starting at $6.95 per month, providing the flexibility and power of dedicated hosting at the pricing of shared hosting. Neosurge's VPS offerings include instant setup, root access, a full control panel, operating system choice, and the ability to reinstall OS and control reboots, as well as system recovery tools, full DNS management, backups, dedicated IP addresses, dedicated ram, quad-core CPUs, and hardware RAID 10.

And 12 points goes to...123-reg!

In honor of the Eurovision song contest, UK domain registrar 123-reg (www.123-reg.co.uk) is celebrating the annual spectacle by slashing the price of its .eu domains from £8.99 to £4.98 until May 18, 2009. Customers can redeem the discount using coupon code "Mayeu".

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
