Liquid Web Offers Parallels VPS

By theWHIR.com , May 06, 2008

May 6, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider Liquid Web (liquidweb.com) announced on Tuesday that it has launched a new Microsoft Windows virtual private server offering powered by web hosting software provider Parallels' Virtuozzo Containers (parallels.com).

According to the recent press release, this represents an expanded partnership with Parallels, which already provides Liquid Web with Parallels Plesk Control Panel software bundled with its Windows dedicated server offerings. Liquid Web says the offering will be delivered from its two mid-western data centers in Lansing, Michigan.

Parallels Virtuozzo Containers includes the Parallels Infrastructure Manager, "a robust set of management tools that helps Liquid Web personnel deliver their Heroic Support," says Liquid Web. Using the Parallels Infrastructure Manager and Parallels Plesk control panel software, Liquid Web can also offer its customers a control panel for adding software as a service applications as well as the ability to scale the size of their VPS.

Liquid Web says it is taking advantage of the Parallels Virtuozzo Containers' architecture to offer "burstable" memory, like temporarily adding more memory to a container during a short period of high activity so clients can have access to more server resources than they actually pay for.

"We are pleased that Liquid Web has selected Parallels Virtuozzo Containers and the Parallels Open Platform for this important new offering and that our two companies are deepening our partnership," says Serguei Beloussov, CEO of Parallels. "Parallels Virtuozzo Containers offers the highest levels of density, manageability and scalability, which makes it an ideal solution for data center owners who want to offer a wide variety of fully-managed services."

Founded in 1997, Liquid Web says it has more than 130 employees and around 15,000 customers around the world. In January the company announced that it had more than doubled its head count and grown its revenues by more than 60 percent.

Last week, Solar Virtualization Technologies Group began using Parallels technologies to launch new software as a service solutions for small and medium businesses.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
