(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The developers of massively multiplayer online game "Fallen Earth" (www.fallenearth.com) have chosen IT infrastructure provider Hosted Solutions (www.hostedsolutions.com) to colocate their network infrastructure equipment at Hosted Solutions' data centers.

Fallen Earth has been guaranteed 100 percent uptime in key areas such as power, bandwidth and cooling, according to Hosted Solutions' Wednesday announcement, made at the first annual Triangle Game Conference, held in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Still in beta testing, the developers said Fallen Earth will combine elements of a first-person shooter with a traditional role-playing game, featuring an apocalyptic storyline following the survivors of a lethal disease that destroyed most of mankind. In choosing Hosted Solutions, Fallen Earth's developers are trying to save their online world such a sorry fate.

"By colocating our infrastructure with Hosted Solutions, we know that we will be up and running, every second of every day possible," Fallen Earth chief executive officer Jim Hettinger said in a statement. "We will have players globally, for whom any downtime is unacceptable, and so we wanted a hosting provider who could offer us the maximum possible reliability."

Hosted Solutions provides high-availability solutions for a number of game companies, ensuring consistent uptime through redundancy, guaranteed failover and the use of industry-leading hardware and software.

"Reliability is key, not only for firms like Fallen Earth, but for businesses of all kinds," Hosted Solutions founder and CEO Rich Lee said in a statement. "Our customers cannot afford to fail. With five enterprise-class data centers located throughout the East Coast, we offer a superior level of quality and service that provides our customers with peace of mind and the ability to focus on their core business."

Earlier this month, Hosted Solutions completed more than $6 million in enhancements to its Boston data center in response to regional demand. The upgrades included roughly two mega watts of increased UPS power capacity and substantial cooling, as well as infrastructure, back-up power, security and video surveillance improvements.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
