April 30, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- During a week in which new data center openings were popular announcements, a data center operator based in North Carolina held an event to celebrate the introduction of its newest facility.
In a press release issued Tuesday, April 29, data center and managed IT service provider Consonus Technologies (consonus.com) reported that it had held a "grand opening event" for its new Salt Lake-area data center a week earlier, on Tuesday, April 22.
The company says it held a ribbon cutting ceremony and offered tours of the new facility. Jason P. Perry, a representative from the Governor's Office of Economic Development was apparently in attendance, along with customers and representatives from several local technology and commerce associations.
Executives from Consonus were also on hand, with CEO Mike Shook, COO Josh Roger, CFO Rob Muir and COO of hosting and infrastructure services Daniel Milburn attending the event.
The new facility is located in West Valley City, Utah, says Consonus, and will offer "multiple structural, environmental and technological systems designed to protect the extensive computing equipment and data it will support."
Consonus was one of several service providers to open a new facility last week. On Thursday, we reported that SingTel would build a multimillion-dollar facility according to local green building standards. And on Friday, Clearview Managed Services reported that it had opened its new facility in Dallas.
"Operating our own data centers is a major factor in what sets us apart from other providers," said Consonus CEO Shook during the ceremony. "We are uniquely able to provide a complete lifecycle approach to the data center, beginning with needs and design consulting, continuing with solution implementation, and completed by full 24/7 support for the solutions we provide."

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
