Web Host SingleHop Offers SSL VPN Solution

By Justin Lee, April 22, 2009

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider SingleHop (www.singlehop.com) announced on Wednesday it released last week its new SSL-VPN solution, which lets customers control servers through a secure access point by connecting to the SingleHop Private Network.

The new SingleHop SSL-VPN offers high levels of security and flexibility through Array Networks' SPX-Series, hardware accelerated sessions, network access through Thin-Client session, and session monitoring, with paper trail for all activities and IP's.

Additionally, the solution offers customer to limit server access through the secure back-end SSL-VPN only, and provide split-tunnel, Layer 3 mechanism to allow simultaneous connections without compromising security.

Using the private network that SingleHop released last week, customers can access servers through a secondary network without using any public network bandwidth.

The SSL-VPN expands on this new offering by allowing a remote access point into the secondary private network, through a two-factor authenticated virtual private network.

"We chose to use Array Networks' SPX-Series gateway because it allowed us the most robust management capabilities," says Andy Pace, vice president of operations at SingleHop. "We know that clients are always looking for ways to do more, faster and, unfortunately, for our times, do it safer. Our partnership with Array Networks allows us to provide all these benefits to our clients without any sacrifices."

The new private network gives customers greater control over their servers with speeds up to 1Gbps.

As a result, customers can now more quickly perform backup, server synchronization, and miscellaneous inter-server communication without using their meter bandwidth.

The new SSL-VPN solution also builds on the private network features through a wide range of security checks and services.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
