ESPC Releases Authentication Report

April 19, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The Email Sender and Provider Coalition (espcoalition.org) announced on Wednesday it has released an ESPC Email Authentication Report, which reveals the rapid adoption of authentication standards by 18 of the largest US Internet service providers. The announcement was made yesterday at the Email Authentication Summit II (emailauthentication.org/summit2006) in Chicago, Illinois.

The report reveals that AOL, Microsoft and Yahoo! support at least one of the current authentication standards. The Internet powerhouses' combined email accounts receive over 50 percent of the nation's commercial email.

Also announced at the summit is the ESPC's newly released reputation position statement that outlines guiding principles of email reputation and provides a framework for public and private reputation services. The statement reaffirms the principles of objectivity and openness, and suggests how RSPs should consider various factors, such as complaint and unknown user rates, in determining sender reputations and facilitating the delivery of legitimate email.

The ESPC's Receiver Relations Committee focuses on developing a better understanding and ongoing dialogue between the sender and the receiver communities. Over the past few months, the Committee worked with numerous ISPs to compile authentication information about their email programs.
