Endurance Buys Web Host PowWeb
April 18, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Shared Web hosting provider PowWeb (powweb.com) announced on Monday that it had been acquired by The Endurance International Group (enduranceinternational.com), which owns several other Web hosting firms, including BizLand and FatCow.
Financial details of the sale were not disclosed, but the companies say Endurance will maintain the PowWeb brand, as well as its popular online forums.
"We're very excited to work with an online community as dynamic and engaging as PowWeb's," says Steve Sydness, CEO of Endurance. "Listening and responding to customer feedback is a hallmark of Endurance. The PowWeb forums will provide a great vehicle for staying close to our customers."
PowWeb CEO Andrew Te says the company is about to begin the process of migrating customer Web sites and email to a new hosting platform that employs the company's proprietary load-balanced hosting technology. He says the new platform will support all its customer sites from a single massively shared hosting pool, which will provide greater redundancy.
"While its ownership has changed, PowWeb's commitment to providing high-quality, rock-solid hosting solutions is stronger than ever," says Te.

iPowerweb has abysmal customer and technical service. My website just disappeared. I could not get in contact with them via Chat, telephone or e-mail. Every time I experienced an issue with them it has been a challenge. I strongly suggest Endurance International do proper due diligence prior to finalizing any merger. I am not alone. This appears to be a consistent issue. See http://www.americanbadbusinesslist.com/ipowerweb-complaints2.htm

I agree with the above. I've been using Powweb since November without trouble, but suddenly my website came to a halt. The old reliable Chat line now seems to staffed by oiks, and support can't fix it. They said on Monday their Engineers were fixing it, but it's still bust.

this outfit is horrible. I sell over $150K a month on my site selling copiers and I have been down over 6 days now with my email - and no help in "site" with those yahoos in support at ipowerweb - two hour hold times, no results, they are history as soon as I am done migrated my site to site 5. Anyone asks me to join in a class action opt me in.

Powweb has gone down hill and it isn't getting any better. Being bought out by Endurance was the worst that happened to them. It's great if you don't mind paying for a site that is always slow, down a lot and forget about MySQL or CGI... its more trouble than it is worth.

I have been there for 7 years and the service has gotten so bad I am looking to go elsewhere... they are totally right as I write this

I also have five web sites with them. Ever since the new change-over it has been miserable. The tech help has been horrible. Gone is the truly courteous and knowledgable help. Help from one tech doesn't coincide with what the next tech does. Several months ago, changes were made to do the change over on a tech phone call. Since then, however, it has been impossible to get on to their vdeck and the last tech I spoke with (both by phone or internet chat) spoke as though I didn't know what I was talking about and kept asking me to "make myself clear." I'm a writer. I know how to make myself clear. I still can't get on to the vdecks of any of my web sites. I can't can't post via my own WS_FTP then I can't download anything new. Perhaps it is time to look elsewhere for a host server.

After many years with iPowerweb I am bailing for greener pastures. They totally f**ed up two important sites, including my main business site which I had for 6 years and to which there are thousands of links (including those published in books). They told me that they had automatically renewed the registration when they hadn't which resulted in the URL being snagged by an unresponsive cybersquatter. Their manager's response? "Sorry, it slipped through the cracks. Nothing we can do about it."
I have to say that the tech support via online chat has been very helpful (albeit very slow to respond)
