Web Hosting Talk Redesign Launched

By theWHIR.com , April 10, 2007

April 10, 2007 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Online media company iNet Interactive (inetinteractive.com) announced on Tuesday that it had launched a redesign of Web Hosting Talk (webhostingtalk.com), the largest discussion board serving the Web hosting business.

As of 11:00 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, the Web site's address forwarded to an iNet status page indicating that the upgrade was currently in progress.

According to iNet, the new Web Hosting Talk offers a clean and easily navigated design with features that add community functions beyond the scope of a standard message board - the most prominent of those new features being a news section.

In conjunction with the redesign's launch, iNet announced a partnership with the Web Host Industry Review, which will be the primary provider of daily news for Web Hosting Talk.

Along with the news, the redesigned Web Hosting Talk will feature RSS feeds and social bookmarking tools, as well as a merchandise store offering a variety of Web Hosting Talk gear.

"Our goal with the redesigned Web Hosting Talk is to better serve the web hosting community - both the WHT members and the consumers and small businesses who utilize the site to conduct research and make purchasing decisions," says Chris Ainsworth, director of product management at iNET Interactive.  "This is the first of several significant product enhancements that will allow the community to interact in ways not currently possible under the constraints of a message board."

According to iNet, the Web Hosting Talk redesign is the first phase of what it calls the iNet 2.0 plaform. The platform is the underlying technology platform used across the company's network to power its community-based sites. It provides a range of new social networking functions designed to met the needs of these communities.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
