(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Horizon Data Center Solutions (www.horizondcs.com) announced on Friday it has leased space at the new Power Loft (www.powerloft.com) data center in Manassas, Virginia as part of its national expansion strategy.
The company will occupy a data center suite that is supported by 2MW of power, with an option for an additional 10MW of capacity.
This is just the first step in Horizon's overall plan to expand its national footprint to up to 120MW of space in the key markets of Dallas, northern Virginia and California.
In addition to the Virginia lease, Horizon is planning to lease space in another data center in northern Virginia and is in talks to lease data center space in Silicon Valley as well as another California market, according to Horizon CEO Lance Smith.
Meanwhile, Horizon's data centers in Dallas continue to see increased demand. The company operates facilties in buildings owned by Digital Realty Trust, one of which opened in September.
Much of this growth is attributed to Horizon's success with small- to medium-sized customers, in which it provides IT infrastructure hosting for SMBs and modest projects for larger corporations.
Horizon leases wholesale data center space, purchases managed service providers and operates the data center where it sells services to its customers.
In December Horizon raised $7.5 million in equity funding from Ballast Point Ventures, and will use the money to open new data centers in Virginia and California.
Power Loft recently opened a 225,000 square foot data center in Prince William County, Virginia. In addition to leasing space, Horizon will also manage connectivity services for the data center.
