CrystalTech Sponsors Sandbox at MIX

By theWHIR.com , March 07, 2008

March 7, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider CrystalTech Web Hosting (crystaltech.com) announced on Wednesday that it is sponsoring Sandbox-in-the-Sky at Microsoft MIX08 (visitmix.com/2008/default.aspx), held March 5 to 7 at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The sandbox is being held on the fourth floor of the Venetian meeting space and will consist of over 60 personal computers in a 4,000 square foot area.

Developers and designers will be able to take part in hands-on labs, as well as test samples of products and technologies showcased at MIX08. Participants will also have the opportunity to try demos, dive into code and publish Web content on complementary Sandbox-in-the-Sky websites hosted by CrystalTech, says the company.

"As a key participant at MIX08, CrystalTech is further solidifying its status as an important partner to Microsoft with respect to Web hosting and Web-related technologies," says Robert Cichon, president of CrystalTech. "MIX08 affords us a great opportunity to not only meet with individuals who count on CrystalTech for their Web hosting needs, but also allows us to interact with the designers and developers who will produce the next generation in cutting-edge websites and Web applications."

In conjunction with products discussed at MIX, CrystalTech also announced at the event that it will be offering free Microsoft Expression licenses to the first 300 customers to select the Expression software option when purchasing a dedicated server package.

CrystalTech Web Hosting also recently began providing support for Windows Server 2008.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
