365 Main Joins Energy Program

March 7, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data center owner and operator 365 Main (365main.com) announced on Wednesday that its Oakland, California data center is participating in "Savings by Design", a program sponsored in part by Pacific Gas & Electric (pge.com) to reduce energy consumption.

365 Main says it will implement energy-efficient measures recommended through the program, helping the company to reduce annual energy consumption by more than 1.67 million kWh, which amounts to enough energy to power approximately 242 homes each year.

Savings by Design is sponsored by four of California's largest utilities. The program encourages the design and construction of high-performance and energy-efficient buildings. PG&E and a third party reviewed design drawings of 365 Main's 111,000-square-foot data center near Oakland's Jack London Square.

PG&E shares the participants' costs by issuing rebate checks. The facility improvements - which include high-efficiency motors and dozens of computer room air conditioners - typically pay for themselves within three years, says 365 Main. The company received a $168,000 rebate check from PG&E to help offset its costs.

Last month, AGL Networks, Cox Communications and Level 3 announced they are providing telecommunications services at 365 Main's 315,000-square foot data center in Chandler, Arizona.
