February 23, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Domain name registrar Afilias (afilias.info) announced on Tuesday that it has completed the transition of registry services for the .aero top-level domain associated with the aviation industry.

Afilias took over management of the registry on behalf of SITA (sita.aero) the organization that sponsored the creation of .aero, and says its services will improve the domain's performance with faster DNS resolution, enhanced security and disaster recovery, and upgraded distribution interface and industry standardization.

"Afilias is pleased to bring .aero into the Afilias family of customers that it services with state of the art domain registration technology that is fast, reliable and secure," said Hal Lubsen, President and CEO of Afilias. "We are looking forward to a successful partnership with SITA to improve the value, technology, distribution, and prosperity of the .aero domain."

Following the migration to Afilias's technology, the .aero registry will operate on the company's Extensible Provisioning Protocol system, which provides increased flexibility, standardization and access to a broad distribution channel of registrars.
