February 20, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Internet regulatory body the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (icann.org) announced last week that it had appointed new staff members to its Global Partnership regional liaison network.

The organization appointed Baher Esmat its Middle East liaison, Pablo Hinojosa its Latin American liaison, Giovanni Seppia its European liaison and Anne Rachel Inne its African liaison.

According to the announcement, Esmat was formerly telecom planning manager at the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. Hinojosa was director for multilateral affairs in the Mexican Federal Telecommunications Commission. Seppia was general manager at the Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries. And Inne was promoted from with ICANN, where she worked as policy analyst.

ICANN says the appointments demonstrate its commitment to building on existing outreach efforts and increasing international participation in ICANN.

ICANN is currently facing criticism from domain industry groups that oppose the organization's recent dealings with VeriSign.
