Alert Logic Execs Start Cloud Security and Compliance Blog

By David Hamilton, February 02, 2010

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- On-demand IT compliance and security solutions provider Alert Logic (www.alertlogic.net) has sponsored the launch of the SecureCloudReview.com Blog (www.securecloudreview.com), which will provide best practices in cloud security and compliance for IT leaders and practitioners.

Alert Logic chief executive officer Gray Hall, and co-founder and chief technology officer Misha Govshteyn as well as guest security and managed IT infrastructure experts will offer their insights on the risks and rewards of cloud computing on the site, launched Tuesday.

"As pioneers of the hosting industry, we have seen the return to centralized computing evolve over the past dozen years from an interesting concept, to reality, to a large-scale investment in pursuit of mainstream cloud computing solutions," Hall said in a statement. "The world will continue to move in this direction for many years and perhaps decades. As entrepreneurs and business operators in the IT security industry, we know that for cloud computing solutions to become viable for mainstream business applications, security is key."

Both Hall and Goyshteyn previously co-founded and led hosting companies VeriCenter and Insync, respectively. Their involvement in SecureCloudReview.com will help current and prospective cloud professionals better understand cloud security as a key element in their overall cloud computing strategy. Hall and Goyshteyn will tap their network of security and hosting industry experts as well as consumers of cloud security and compliance solutions to offer additional opinions and best practices for the SecureCloudReview.com audience.

"SecureCloudReview.com is focused on the key steps we can take to accelerate the maturing of cloud computing solutions to the point where they are a fit for enterprise needs, particularly from a security point of view," Hall said. "Managed hosting companies and other types of service providers are bringing new and improved cloud computing solutions to market in 2010. Each of these developments is an important piece of this exciting puzzle. In this blog we want to ask questions, discuss alternatives, and help shed some light on this emerging space."

This is just the latest effort Alert Logic has taken in its continued effort to spark important discussion about the cloud. In pursuit of this goal, Alert Logic is one of the sponsors of the WHIR's networking event in Houston on Thursday, February 18, 2010, where industry executives, solution providers and corporate decision makers can meet face-to-face in a casual environment.

October 2009 - Web Hosting's All Star Team
This has been, for us, one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging build-ups to an issue of the magazine yet, Web Hosting's All Star Team. The balloting process was our first experiment with a kind of user participation we're planning to do a lot more with in the months to come. We had thousands of ballots submitted, with hundreds of write-in suggestions and a demonstration of user engagement that has us feeling super positive about the project.

July 2009 - What am I Worth?
One of the interesting luxuries of working on a project like the printed WHIR magazine is that it allows us to play with things like our point of view from one issue to the next. In recent months we've been giving added attention to the kind of practical and applicable advice aimed at smaller hosts and resellers. This issue carries on with that point of view, asking, in our cover story, "what am I worth?" It's a complicated question without a clear-cut answer.

May 2009 - The Blueprint for a Small Web Host
I was a little surprised by how difficult it became to see this idea through. We set out to assemble a blueprint for a small hosting business, but butted up pretty quickly against the general impossibility of covering all the territory that was out there to be covered. The basic constraints of a printed magazine, and the less-than-infinite amount of time we had available forced us to face the fact that we could never produce an exhaustive guide to starting a hosting company.
