(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Manchester-based, data center and colocation service provider IFL (www.internetf.co.uk) has launched a secure web-based rack management and information tool called "ISIS."
According to IFL's Monday announcement, ISIS's power monitoring and reporting tools are designed to provide clients with colocation space environmental information, similar data to what IFL's own 24/7 operations center staff sees.
Colocation customers can view lists of each of their racks and the individual power usage statistics of each, presented online in simple data and graphical formats in various units such as Amps, kW, kVA and kVAR. IFL said this will encourage and enable customers to strive to reduce power usage and invest in more efficient data center technology.
"IFL are offering tangible proof that investment in efficient server infrastructure reduces the cost of outsourcing your data center," IFL sales manager Matthew Edgley said in a statement. "Colocation customers with equipment in data centers without these reporting tools are paying for power consumption for which they have little or no visibility. As power consumption has become the major colocation cost factor, approximate values offer very little to the bottom line."
IFL's power usage data, however, is not limited to racks, but is available on all data center infrastructure components such as UPS systems and HVAC units, letting ISIS calculate a data center's Power Usage Effectiveness (or PUE), and Data center Infrastructure Efficiency (or DCiE) metrics in real time and pinpointing inefficient components.
IFL service director Marcus Hopwood said in a statement, "IFL is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our services, without compromising service availability. We achieve this with a detailed monitoring and measurement programme and by including energy efficiency as a key factor in equipment selection."
ISIS's customer portal also provides customers with a central point to access information specific to their own data center, including managing data center deliveries, logging support tickets, and managing user and data center access.
"Although remote in location from the data center, customers can gain access to critical details of their technical space at anytime, anywhere with an Internet browser," Edgley said.
