Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.

January 8, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web hosting provider SoftLayer (softlayer.com) announced on Tuesday that it has deployed 40GB connectivity to each server rack to ensure maximum network performance in its newly launched data center in Seattle, Washington.

The location's initial 50-cabinet install of 2,000 servers uses more than 600 10GB Ethernet ports from Cisco, says SoftLayer. While most hosting companies boast Gigabit Ethernet to the Internet, SoftLayer says it is delivering 40GB to every rack and when its install of 150 racks is complete in mid-2008, it will use over two thousand 10GB ports.

This level of connectivity supports escalating demand for SoftLayer's rapidly expanding managed storage services, StorageLayer, says the company, and with SaaS, Web 2.0 and streaming media applications driving the need for higher performance storage, it has become critical to have higher bandwidth between servers and storage.

"This level of redundancy and throughput is ideal for grid, clustering and high performance computing and truly demonstrates our dedication to these emerging technologies and to providing enterprise services to the masses," says Ric Moseley, VP of engineering at SoftLayer.

Last month, Softlayer opened its Seattle data center, adding new cross-data center capabilities to its hosting solutions.
