SCO Group Ordered to Reveal Code

Netcraft: Autozone Mostly Runs Solaris
According to Netcraft, out of Autozone's visible servers, only one ? firefly.autozone.com - is running on Linux. The server, Netcraft says, appears to be the front end of an intranet connecting its retail stores that includes more than 3,000 Linux machines, according to a 1999 agreement with Red Hat. The majority of its servers, including the one that runs its corporate Web site, use the Solaris platform. An additional internal site runs on Windows 2000.
SCO Group Adds Three More Licensees
The licensees included Computer Associates, a developer of software solutions for IT infrastructure management, natural gas supplier Questar and manufacturer Leggett and Platt. The three companies join Web hosting provider EV1Servers (ev1servers.net), who SCO revealed on Monday had signed up for the IP license for Linux.
SCO Suing Autozone, DaimlerChrysler
"AutoZone violated SCO's UNIX copyrights by running versions of the Linux operating system that contain code, structure, sequence and/or organization from SCO's proprietary UNIX System V code in violation of SCO's copyrights," the company said in a release.
SCO Launches First End-User Lawsuit
The lawsuit is the first such suit SCO has brought against an individual end user.

SCO said the licenses, first offered in August of last year, allows EV1Severs and its customers to continue running Linux servers without the potential interruptions that may arise due to legal issues.

Register.com Wins Verio Injunction

Verio is also prohibited from any activity that attempts to mislead Register.com customers into believing that Register.com is affiliated with Verio or its services in any way.
SCO Files Lawsuit Against Novell
According to the report, SCO is accusing Novell of slander and seeking a court order that would require Novell to assign to SCO all UNIX-related copyrights and to withdraw any statements that lay claim to ownership of UNIX. The suit also seeks unspecified punitive damages and injunctions that would transfer to SCO any UNIX-related copyrights obtained by Novell.
Red Hat Offers Warranty on Linux Software
The warranty, part of Red Hat's Open Source Assurance Program, comes on the heels of a similar announcement made last week by SuSE Linux, recently acquired by Novell, who said it would offer legal protection to users of the Linux open source operating system.
Network Solutions, Register.com Face Lawsuit
The lawsuit alleges that the two registrars are selling rights to Web URLs and email addresses that infringe on a patent that was granted to Javaher and Weyer on December 30, 2003. The patent covers third-level domains, in which the method of assigning URLs and email addresses makes the "@" sign the dot in the URL. For example, the URL www.john.smith.com becomes john@smith.com. The plaintiffs allege that Network Solutions and Register.com are infringing the patent by selling rights to URLs and email addresses under the .name domain.
SCO Seeking UNIX Licenses in Europe
A SCO intellectual property license "permits the use of SCO's intellectual property, in binary form only, as contained in Linux distributions," the company said in a release. SCO said users who purchase the licenses are properly compensating the company for use of its licensed UNIX code that is found in Linux.
SCO Presents IBM With Evidence
The documents are the first pieces of evidence shown to IBM since SCO filed its lawsuit against the computer giant in March of 2003.
SCO Asks UNIX Licensees to Certify Compliance
The SCO Group said written certification must be returned within 30 days. In the event that certification is not received, SCO said in the letter that it reserved the right to "pursue all legal remedies available to it including, but not limited to, license termination rights."

SCO Group Secures $50 Million Investment
October 17, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The SCO Group (sco.com) announced yesterday that it has received a $50 million investment from California-based BayStar Capital. The investment, according to the company, was structured as a private placement of non-voting Series A Convertible Preferred Shares, convertible into common equity at a fixed conversion price of $16.93 per share. Upon conversion, BayStar will own an aggregate of approximately 2,953,000 shares of SCO common stock, representing 17.5% of the company's outstanding shares.
