Digital Realty Trust Buys 10-Acre Site in Dublin for Data Center

February 8, 2012 — Data center operator Digital Realty Trust announced on Wednesday it has acquired a 10-acre development site in Dublin, Ireland. The move follows last month’s acquisitions of data centers in San Franciso and Atlanta. Located 9.3 miles outside of Dublin, the data center is located in Profile Park. It will have 11.5 MW of power across four buildings spanning about 193,000 square feet of space.

February 2, 2012 — Irish-based European web hosting provider Blacknight announced on Wednesday that 40,000 of its customers may have been affected in a security breach on Tuesday. In a press release, Blacknight says no financial data was exposed in Tuesday’s breach, but client contact details including email addresses and telephone numbers were leaked. Overall, Blacknight calls the damage minimal.

September 30, 2011 — Technology giant Google announced on Friday it will build a new green data center in Dublin, Ireland, following its purchase of 11 acres of land and an existing building on Profile Park. The company said it will invest about $101 million to complete the new data center, which will expand on its  existing Dublin data center space that is leased from a third party.

November 8, 2010 — Irish cloud hosting provider Dediserve announced last week via its blog it has acquired Belfast-based hosting firm AventureHost for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is predicted to bring Dediserve’s annual revenue to $1.4 million by 2011. AventureHost has been trading for seven years and is the second largest hosting firm in Northern Ireland. The acquisition is part of Dediserve’s strategy to develop a strong position in the UK cloud computing market.
