ICANN Accepting .net Proposals

November 15, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (icann.org) is expected to formally request proposals for the management of the .net domain framework Friday. Currently overseen by VeriSign Inc., which also controls the .com framework, the contract for .net management will expire on June 30 and several companies are rushing to compete for future contracts.

NeuLevel Adds Non-English .Biz Names

October 8, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — NeuLevel (neulevel.biz), the operator of .biz registry, announced on Thursday that it will begin offering international domain names for the .BIZ Registry. August 5, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — European Web hosting and domain name registration company 1&1 Internet (1&1 Internet) announced on Monday that it has launched a program in which it will give away free .biz registrations in an effort to boost the acceptance of the extension in the UK.

U.S. Gov't Selects NeuStar to Manage .US domain

November 1, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — NeuStar, Inc. (neustar.biz), a neutral third party provider of mission-critical services, has been selected by the Department of Commerce (DoC) to manage the authoritative Internet address space for the United States – “.US”. The selection was the culmination of a public discussion of the .US domain that began in 1998 and was made after a comprehensive competitive evaluation process. NeuStar was awarded a four-year contract with two optional one-year renewals.
