August 16, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Hurricane Charley, which devastated Florida on Friday, is causing a surge of traffic to US weather sites, according to a report by research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com).
Netcraft says weather.com (weather.com) experienced reliability problems before the hurricane hit on Friday afternoon, but later stabilized. The Weather.com site is hosted by MCI's UUnet (mci.com/uunet).
Netcraft also reported that The National Hurricane Center (nhc.noaa.gov), the US government's central source for hurricane information, has been available throughout the storm. The site is hosted on government servers at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration.
