Ubizen to Present "Every Web Server Needs a Shield"
May 9, 2002 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Managed security solution provider Ubizen (Ubizen.com) announced on Thursday that, as part of the e-Secure 2.0 Virtual Conference, it will present a security seminar entitled ?Every Web Server Needs a Shield.?
Matt Walnock, senior software developer for Ubizen, will discuss the dangerous gaps left by many of the security devices on the market today and the need for a ?shield? to protect corporate Web servers from worms, viruses and other malicious attacks.
While today?s firewalls have been very successful in stopping most network-level cyber attacks, says Ubizen, hackers and crackers are turning their attention to the application level, where new kinds of protection are needed. Because malicious Web server requests resemble legitimate HTTP requests, these attacks usually pass through standard firewalls, intrusion detection probes and other security devices.
Hackers, says Ubizen, take advantage of this opportunity to misuse the HTTP protocol and deface Web sites or gain access to confidential and critical business information.
Ubizen says its response to this type of intrusion is to place a security layer in front of a Web site. The company?s DMZ/Shield Enterprise examines every request to ensure it is a genuine Web request and is in line with security policies. Requests that don?t fit are rejected before any damage is done, protecting Web sites from known and unknown viruses and worms.
The company will make its presentation Thursday, May 16, from 2:00 to 2:30 pm Eastern. The e-Secure 2.0 conference (e-Secure20.com), running from May 14 to 16, 2002, is designed to offer organizations the opportunity to interact live with industry experts in the area of Internet security and Cyber Crime.
