April 5, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- RegistryPro (registrypro.com), operator of the registry for the .pro top-level domain announced on Monday that it would offer trademark and service mark owners a "sunrise" period of six weeks in which to register their domain names with the new .pro extension, expected to launch in June of 2004.
The company says the .pro TLD is designed to provide a distinct Internet presence for professionals. Registrants must undergo a verification process to verify their eligibility for using the extension, which will be initially available to only doctors, lawyers and CPAs. Each registration will include a digital certificate for authenticating communications and transactions.
Trademark and service mark owners, says RegistryPro, will be able to purchase four-year defensive registrations that will protect specific domains in all current and future second-level string variations, such as .law.pro, .med.pro or .cpa.pro.
"As we near the launch of the .pro domain, we encourage the owners of trademarks, service marks and other protected brand names to take advantage of this special registration opportunity," said Michael DelCiello, general manager of RegistryPro. "The .pro domain will add a new dimension to the Internet, offering professionals a unique online identity, and providing a new standard of security and confidentiality for professionals and their clients."
