December 15, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Data center automation software developer Opsware (opsware.com) announced on Wednesday that it has released version 5.5 of Opsware Asset Tracking Edition, a solution for tracking and managing IT assets. The latest version will be generally available in January 2005.
Opsware Asset Tracking Edition 5.5, the company says, includes extended discovery capabilities, new reporting capabilities and more stringent access controls for improved, centralized security. The solution supports the latest editions of Red Hat Linux and both current and past versions of Windows, Solars, HP-UX and AIX.
"Customers need to discover and track all their IT assets to rationalize purchases and understand how they are being used, so they can find opportunities to control costs and optimize vendor licensing agreements," says Tim Howes, chief technology officer for Opsware. "Opsware ATE 5.5 provides the industry's most extensive discovery and platform support, allowing IT to discover and manage the vast majority of their IT infrastructure."
The company said ATE is also important given the current regulatory environment, which is forcing companies to more closely track and manage their IT assets.
Opsware has approximately 200 Opsware ATE customers in North America, Europe and Asia.
