September 20, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web browser developer Opera Software (opera.com) announced on Monday that it has recorded its one-millionth download of the Opera Mobile browser from its Web site, adding that many more copies have been downloaded from partners and other download sites.
Opera says its Web browsing software has become the most popular third party application on the Symbian OS. According to the company, Opera has, in the last two years, released its mobile browser for a range of devices on various platforms and sold many millions of licenses to handset manufacturers. The spread of the browser has significantly impacted the way that Web site information is delivered.
According to Opera, the company's small screen rendering technology reinvigorated interest in the mobile Internet, by displaying Web pages in a manner optimized for mobile device screen sizes and resolutions. Two years after launching SSR, Opera says its software leads the market, bridging mobile operators' services with the full Internet.
"Users love getting access to the full Web as a complement to accessing their operators' existing data services. In addition to the industry increasingly adopting Opera, one million people have on their own sought to download and install Opera from our Web site, that's real success for our vision," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO of Opera Software. "After having conquered Europe and making headway in Asia, the first Opera-capable phones are now appearing in the US market. There's still a long way to go, but we've had a great start."
