April 23, 2003 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Invotion (invotion.com), a provider of Microsoft hosting solutions based in Louisville, Kentucky, said yesterday it had developed a Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting solution for the Windows platform.
The company said its plan, called the "True VPS" plan, gives clients access to areas of a Windows VPS server that are typically available only in dedicated hosting solutions. These include terminal server access, a custom install of Windows 2000 and rebooting abilities.
Invotion said that unlike other Windows VPS solutions that isolate the sites on a server using Internet Information Server (IIS), thereby restricting clients from root access to the server, its new proprietary solution allowed up to 12 instances of the operating system to be run simultaneously on one server - giving clients full control of their own operating system.
"Before our True VPS plan, there was no way for the advanced Microsoft developer to have complete control over their hosting environment without the investment of a dedicated server," said Dan Brennan, senior Web developer at Invotion. "Now, the advanced developer has the resources available to install custom software, configure the web server as they need, and does not have to worry about performance degradation caused by someone else's code. The True VPS plan is really the only way to completely ensure a website is isolated when on a shared Windows server."
