April 6, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Regulatory body the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (icann.org) said this week that it had published a compliance program to explain its approach to enforcement of compliance with its Registry Agreements and Registrar Accreditation Agreements.
Level 1 PCI DSS Certified Service Provider! DataPipe delivers the best network & support; top tier data centers; New York metro, Silicon Valley, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai. DataPipe - Personal Touch, Global Reach.
ICANN feels the failure of registrars to meet the agreements could harm consumers and the Internet community, and intends to address non-compliance with a series of penalties that escalate according to the breach. The most serious breaches can lead to loss of accreditation or the termination of the agreement.
The organization says it will work to prevent breaches and address them when they do occur, in order to encourage compliance in general by registries and registrars.
ICANN says it will ensure that its staff is regularly trained to ensure that its information on standards of compliance is up to date. The organization will post compliance statistics and reports publicly.
