July 26, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Equinix Inc. (equinix.com), a network-neutral data center and Internet exchange services provider, announced on Monday that it has introduced its Equinix GigE Exchange Portal, an analysis tool designed to monitor traffic exchange or "peering" relationships between Internet service providers, content providers, and other network service providers through Equinix's GigE Exchange Service.
Equinix says the tool offers detailed reporting to networks and content providers using Equinix GigE Exchange, a service that facilitates ISP and content peering amid Equinix customers through a central switching fabric.
The portal also allows customers an integrated graphical view of their Exchange ports, giving them a strong reporting tool to view bandwidth utilization and peer traffic flow, allowing network service providers and content providers to actively monitor their peering traffic with each other.
Equinix says its GigE Exchange has significantly aided the peering infrastructure of many ISPs and content companies. The portal reduces transit costs for Internet companies operating within Equinix's IBX centers on a centralized switch, eliminating the need for intermediate network backbones by establishing a more direct route to the packet's destination.
