September 30, 2004 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- E-commerce outsourcing provider Digital River (digitalriver.com) announced on Wednesday that it is hosting a downloadable software store for eBay, part of a pilot program for a new purchase category on the popular online auction site.
Digital River says that, in addition to designing and launching the store, it is providing the site with hosting, payment processing, fraud prevention, customer service, reporting and digital downloads. The site offers a catalog of downloadable software that includes utilities, business applications, productivity tools and digital imaging and security software.
According to Digital River, the company's e-commerce system is integrated into eBay's marketplace, allowing Digital River to automate the online marketing and sales process for its publishing clients.
"We believe the launch of our downloadable software store on eBay serves as an important extension of our online sales network," said Joel Ronning, Digital River's CEO. "Working with tens of thousands of software publishing clients over the past 10 years, we've been able to build what we believe is one of the world's largest digital libraries. By making select titles available on eBay, we can offer publishing clients tremendous product exposure on one of the most highly trafficked marketplaces in the world."
