August 5, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Apache's share of the Web server market pushed closer to 70 percent last month, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (netcraft.com) August Web server survey.

Apache's market share rose 0.16 percentage points to 69.97 percent while Microsoft lost ground, dropping from 22.80 to 22.61 percent. Sun and Zeus both last ground as well, slipping 0.05 and 0.03 percentage points respectively.
Netcraft's survey, which measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers, also reached its ten-year anniversary this month. The August survey received responses from 70,392,567 sites, marking an increase of 2.8 million hostnames over last month. The survey crossed the 60 million mark only five months ago.
According to Netcraft's data, Apache has added a total of 11.9 million sites since August 2004. Microsoft had added 10.7 million over the same period.
