February 1, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Apache continues to dominate the Web server market, adding another 0.40 percent market share last month, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (netcraft.com) February Web server survey. With the increase, Apache now runs on over 40 million Web sites, Netcraft said.
Apache's market share rose from 68.43 to 68.83 percent, while Microsoft's share remained largely unchanged, dropping from 20.86 to 20.85 percent. Sun lost 0.03 percent market share, declining to 3.11 percent and Zeus lost 0.14 percent, leaving its market share at 1.05 percent.
After several months of holding steady, Apache appears to be opening the gap between itself and Microsoft, the industry's second most widely used Web server. Last month, Apache jumped 0.59 percent, giving Apache a full percentage gain of market share in just two months.
Netcraft's monthly Web server survey measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers. The February 2005 survey received responses from 59,100,880 sites, representing a gain of 906,044 million sites over the previous month.
