September 5, 2008 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Web application experience management service provider Gomez (gomez.com) has added support for Google's Chrome and Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 beta 2 browsers for its cross-browser, performance testing environment.
According to the company's announcement Thursday, Gomez's Reality View XF service enables developers to visualize how their web applications will appear and perform when rendered in the Chrome and IE 8 beta browsers. The seeming explosion of interest in new web browsers has forced companies to update their products as users connect to the internet in different ways.
"The recent proliferation of web browser platforms has put many Internet application providers in an unenviable position," Tier1 Research vice president and research director Daniel Golding said in a statement.
"In addition to three different versions of Internet Explorer, two versions of Firefox, and Apple's Safari, now developers must test against yet another platform -- Google's Chrome. That both Chrome and IE8 are in beta -- subject to rapid change -- makes matters worse. Web application developers are in dire need of powerful, web-based software quality assurance capabilities," Golding said.
Reality View XF delivers screen captures of how web pages render and load in more than 500 combinations of browsers, operating systems and devices, essential to launching and maintaining a successful web application according to Gomez chief technology officer Imad Mouline.
"A web application is no longer what a developer builds; it's what the user sees and experiences," Mouline said in a statement. "End-users expect rich, high-quality web experiences, whatever browser or operating system they choose to use. Businesses cannot afford to disenfranchise their customers should they chose to use Chrome or IE 8 as their browser."
