December 18, 2006 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- According to reports from local papers, Microsoft (microsoft.com) is considering San Antonio as the location for the construction of a new data center reportedly worth close to $1 billion.
Reports say the company is looking at land in Westover Hills on the northwest side of the city for the proposed development.
According to county officials, the data center would be a hub for data services and computing equipment, and would consume a considerable amount of electricity.
And local officials say the company is looking for a secure area for the facility that would be safe from natural disasters and terrorist attacks.
The city says it hopes to hear Microsoft's decision some time next year.
