December 7, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- Australian Web hosting provider WebCentral's (webcentral.com.au) data center in Brisbane was shut down temporarily on Monday due to a faulty water pump, reports say.
The malfunctioning water pump and its backup caused a shortage of water that affected the ability of the facility to maintain its air conditioning systems.
WebCentral said in reports that it had originally shut down all non-essential services in the facility to minimize the impact of the water supply shortage. The company then shut down the facility to protect the servers and other equipment.
David Lammey, general manager of consumer and business for WebCentral, said in reports that 1,000 customers ranging from shared hosting to corporate were affected. The outage lasted approximately four hours, he said.
